Ductile Cast Iron ASTM A395 Grade Professional Iron Castings Foundry


Production process includes:

green sand casting process

pre-coated sand casting process

resin sand casting process

Weight range: from 50 gram to 2,000 kilograms for ductile iron casting product


Machining process:

CNC machine, machining center, lathe, mill machine, drill machine, etc.


Surface treatment process:

paint coating, electrophoretic paint coating, electrogalvanizing coating, black oxide coating, phosphate treatment,  powder coating, etc.


Product  Material and Uses

Normally production with gray iron HT200, HT250, ductile iron 65-45-12, 60-40-18, 80-55-06, 80-60-03, 100-70-03, etc.

The ductile iron casting products are widely used for Auto-cars, trains, trucks, vehicle components, mining machinery components, agricultural machinery parts, textile machinery parts, construction machinery parts, etc.


Ductile iron Chemical Composition

A typical chemical analysis of this material:

Carbon 3.2 to 3.60%

Silicon 2.2 to 2.8%

Manganese 0.1 to 0.2%

Magnesium 0.03 to 0.04%

Phosphorus 0.005 to 0.04%

Sulfur 0.005 to 0.02%

Copper <0.40%

Iron balance

Elements such as copper or tin may be added to increase tensile and yield strength while simultaneously reducing ductility. Improved corrosion resistance can be achieved by replacing 15% to 30% of the iron in the alloy with varying amounts of nickel, copper, or chromium.


Ductile Iron Applications

Much of the annual production of ductile iron is in the form of ductile iron pipe, used for water and sewer lines. It competes with polymeric materials such as PVC, HDPE, LDPE and polypropylene, which are all much lighter than steel or ductile iron; being softer and weaker, these require protection from physical damage.

Ductile iron is specifically useful in many automotive components, where strength must surpass that of aluminum but do not necessarily require steel. Other major industrial applications include off-highway diesel trucks, Class 8 trucks, agricultural tractors, and oil well pumps. In wind power industry nodular cast iron is used for hubs and structural parts like machine frames. Nodular cast iron is suitable for large and complex shapes and high (fatigue) loads.

SG iron is used in many grand piano harps (the iron plates to which high-tension piano strings are attached).
